child soldiers

"Omar Ahmed Khadr was under trial because he was under charge of murdering the Sgt. of the US military first class Christopher James Speer. Speer and others were severely injured when "U.S. forces entered a compound where Khadr and others were located". After a firefight ensued, prosecutors alleged Khadr threw a grenade that killed Speer and wounded others." But a line ago the small stance said that US forces entered the compound where Omar Khadr and others were located. This means that Khadr was defending his area and had no intention of a forward attack. when reading forward the text says that " Khadr was also seriously wounded in the firefight, half-blinded in one eye and with two bullet wounds to his chest. In bringing the murder in violation of the laws of war charge before a military commission, the U.S. government is saying that the killing of a combatant openly on the battlefield is a war crime when committed by an irregular combatant." These facts were skipped during his trial. He was injured during defensive actions and not offensive ones. He has comitied a crime and that is a fact but still neither did he voulenter nor did he go on and enter someones territory with the intention of a forward attack. Of course he shall be held under strict counselling from a high leaves and experienced state counselor as he has made offensive actions .

Child soldiers

She is a child soldier who has volunteered to fight but the main purpose of her volunteering was defending her country from a big drug importation. Now according to the given information she has been a messenger, a driver and also has provided logistical support and she has killed. her mind has criminal thoughts but maybe her intentions were the benefit of her own country and defending it or saving it from an external forces. But coming to the point that she has killed may opinion is that she shall be put under strict counseling from either a state counselor or a qualified counselor who either works at a school or at some other higher office. She has developed a criminal mind that can be dangerous for herself, her relatives and her country. A good counselor can provide helpful advice and an environment of transformation from a killer to a good person.

War is not for kids in case of an extreme emergency kids can think upon this idea of fighting for their country, but kids fighting in wars are putting their future in darkness. The country has an army for defense and attack. Coming back to the point, jail does not offer an chance of external and internal development. So in conclusion, counseling is the best way to treat child soldiers.

victims:

  • they didn't have any choice, and have to follow what their commander says
  • (if any) child soldiers eventually end up ding in war or getting severely injured
  • they do not get to live a memorable childhood like other children.
  • Witness deaths and terrible misery
  • they might get damaged physically or psychologically.
  • live in the fear of getting harassed or killed by their commander or higher fellow army men if they do not obey their commands.
  • some might develop a criminal mind and might end up becoming terrorists in future.
  • Sucide
Perpetrator:

  • might have taken lives of endless number of people in wars fought.
  • child soldiers like any common soldier tend to take lives of innocent civilians
  • child soldiers are replicas of child criminals and shall not be excused just because their crime had take place during a war.
  • the age of crime responsibility is lower than 18 and child soldiers are (mostly) below the age of 18, this means they have killed.
  • They become stealers, murders and eventually terrorists.

How did we come up with creative and innovative ideas during our journey!
This Tuesday we planned to complete our final video that is on defense. Attacking has been a skill that we have been able to show the world from our experience. But there is another crucial skill in basketball defense. If you are an amazing attacker but do not know the skill of getting the ball or not fouling while defense then you might a huge problem on the court. So we decided to record on defense. A channel name ILoveBasketball has also published a video on defense.

Then on wednesday as I was scrolling through our channel I saw that our videos were a hit! I saw that our previous two videos that were on dribbling and layup had around 30-45 views each and the latest of our videos that was on shooting was also becoming a hit! Here is a link so of our channel that comprises all of our videos-how to basketball.

And then I realized that this growth of our videos was due to the ISTE standard 1. Creativity and Innovation, about which I am going to write in my blog post. The main motive of this standard that we as students apply what we currently know and then

Here is my view on how were we as a whole team able to meet this standard. We discovered that basketball is skill that me, Ayham and Cyrus had a prior knowledge of and still kept in touch with it by the means of playing full large size games during free time. This helps us keep our skills fresh and we will still have the skills in our mind and the right way to apply them when on the court or in game situations. Now coming back to the question of how did we meet this standard I would like to say that having an existing knowledge at this sport had already helped us a lot and we constantly communicated with our fellow classmates for new ideas and even Mr. Mongardi helped us a lot. Mr.Mongardi gave us an idea of having fewer voice recordings and more of text and indeed his new idea has helped us. I think his advice was really helpful. At the end of the first bit of this standard I would like to say that we have met this part of it as we have used our prior knowledge and have taken new ideas from fellow students if needed.

The next bit of the standard says that we as students create an original works by means of personal or group effort. This section says that we as individual students or as a collaborative group create an original work, and so have we done. We as a team have successfully uploaded three videos and are moving on to our fourth upload. This all is a result of continuous collaboration, having a say, keep on generating new ideas, listen to others ideas and take their feedback and all this combined together has helped us to get this success. I would like to say that we have collaborated really well through our journey of this project and have obtained the success we were looking for. And as Henry Ford in his quote said that "Coming together is a beginning. Keeping together is progress. Working together is success." I would like to say that we came together as a team, kept together during the journey and worked to the best of our abilities to obtain success.

The standards last part says that we make the best use of technology as students, and so are we doing. We have used Imovie to our best and have added voice, some great music, trimmed unwanted parts on the clippings and compiled all the clippings to create great videos after that to explain forward use of technology during our journey, we have published videos and when we see a comment that requests for a newer skill (like we had one on our layup video, someone requested for a shooting video) we went on digitally communicated via a new video. This is not where our interaction with technology gets over we have also seen expert videos on basketball to learn how can we improve. We have used technology wisely and resourcefully and have seen some great results.

Now coming to the final part of this standard which says discover trends and forecast possibilities. When talking about discovering trends, it is the only part where I think we as a team might have not paid that much attention to. For the first to videos we kept the same trend, instead of which we should have discovered or thought of a newer or better trend than the first one. But then Mr.Mongardi helped us in this area. He called us by his table and played our how to layup video. And told us that our voice made it a bit difficult for the viewer to pay attention and he also told us that we had a lot of verbal explanation going on. Then he told us that we could use some textual explanations. This would make it easier for the viewer to pay attention. So in our latest upload that was on how to shoot we tried to follow his advice and after he had viewed the video he told us it was a great effort put in by us and we had done lot more better only we could have added some verbal explanation as it was only textual explanation but he told us that we had done a great job and had a better outcome than before.

Finally I would like to conclude on the standard by saying that the greatest of the innovations would not occur without creativity and innovation.  Thomas Alva Edison who was the creator of bulb failed 1,000 times but he did not give up each time he came up with a different idea, a better innovative one, he would discover trends and would come up with a different one each time and then he came up with one successful bulb. If he would have not shown dedication and would have not come up with the creative idea of bulb we would be living in darkness and would have to face lots of problems. The greatest events took place only because of dedication, creativity, innovation and a different idea each time. Walter Lippman in his quote he said that "When all think alike, then no one is thinking." I would like to conclude that by saying that  having the dedication and courage to come up with something new, something innovative and trying again and again even after failing several times and the most important doing your best it is impossible for a person to not reach success. The person will succeed and his or her small lamp of innovation, creativity and hard work will turn into one of the brightest light.

Transforming our video styles
On monday as we were going to the basketball court, Mr.Mongardi who is our media literacy teacher and a really helpful guide who has been guiding us our way to make this project successful. He just called us over to his table for a small talk on how to improve our basketball videos. He played our last upload which was on layup. He told us that we can improve our videos by making shorter and more informative videos. So we tried following his advice for our “how to shoot videos”. Now we are almost done with the recording part of our video and are left with the editing part which will be done soon and we will be uploading it on Youtube.

Then Mr. Mongardi explained to us a really great term called the ISTE standards of learning. He asked to explain our learning via these standards about which I will be writing now. He asked us to explain on how did we use these standards in  our project. In total there are 6 ISTE standards and now I will explain the ones that we used during our project. Standard number 2) says Communication and collaboration. We are in a group and communicate a lot amongst ourselves but that is not where we limit on this standard, two of our classmates Jonah  Wimmer and Jacob Brian Richard. These two guys are really helpful to us as when we were once struggling to overcome a skill that consisted layups we walked up to them and they helped us by getting through the skill by making a short appearance in our video. Also while recording for our shooting video Jacob and Jonah helped us with some cool tips that they knew about basketball as they are connected to basketball like us.

Also when we saw some viewer comments on the video that were beneath the layup video that and the comments read as “how to shoot” we took this comment and are now trying to fulfill our viewer needs. I think as a team we are really doing great with communicating to our own classmates for tips and then expanding on this standard by getting our viewer comments and taking them seriously. Now we take comments and are trying to do our bit of communication via our videos. And I trust that if we communicate with others we will surely get more tips and different ideas.

I would like to conclude with an example of an army. Army men collaborate with each other to keep the country safe.

Our second upload and a kick start on shooting!
We just uploaded our second video on "how to layup", then we scrolled through our comments and saw that we had a comment that said something like “how to shoot”. So we thought to fulfill our viewers requests so, we thought on starting to record how to shoot videos. Many people don’t know the correct way of shooting and tend to make mistakes. With our program of how to shoot we are trying to help our viewers learn the correct technique of shooting. A channel name     ILoveBasketballTV has also uploaded a video on the  technique of shooting.

On sunday which was the first class of media literacy of the week we completed the editing of our layup videos. Then we uploaded it and started deciding that what are we going to do for the rest of the class and on tuesday. We then were about to start on recording for shooting but the class ended. So we planned to start recording for shooting on tuesday. On tuesday we came out onto the basketball court and started recording our shooting videos.

We are now on our shooting program and are going to upload it the next week. We will be then moving to game tactics. We are gaining subscribers and getting more views. Our project is turning out to be a success!

Our Second upload is coming up!!
It has been a fun as well as a productive week. We have now started gaining subscribers at our YouTube channel “How To Basketball”. A lot of work has been done this week . we have successfully completed recording the video on all the layup styles. A YouTube channel named  “GamingWithOva” has also uploaded a video on the different styles of layups.

On Sunday we first came out onto the basketball court and sat down under the shade to find out what all has been done over the past one to two weeks and what all is left to be covered. We then found out that we were left with two different layup styles to be done.

We did the layups and were about to start on our editing but had no time left so we decided to hold it for the next time. On Wednesday we got on to the basketball court and started voice overing and editing. We had to edit a lot as the sun made the objects in the video darker.
We s a team are moving in the right direction and soon we will be uploading our second video. After that we will be only left with three more videos to go and we will be done.

Our aim is to help those people easily learn what is basketball and how to develop skill and confidence in it, we are doing this using what our knowledge of basketball is. me, Ayham and Cyrus have and still play basketball. To me and my team this is a really fun as well as physical sport. And so we took up this project to help people by uploading videos on basketball and let the as many people view it and so we decided to use a great and popular site for videos  called YouTube. It has been fun working on this project! And i hope to see even more fun and productivity on the way.
